Somalis on a study tour visited NEC

On October 16, 2009, a delegation of ministers and Members of Parliament from Somalia (State of Puntland) visited the National Electoral Commission as part of their study tour. A group of five Somalia officials on a study tour in Rwanda met with the Executive Secretary of NEC, Mr. Charles Munyaneza at the headquarters of NEC in Kimihurura.

After Mr. Munyaneza made an overview of NEC, an Institution with the vocation of promoting democracy and good governance in Rwanda, and briefed the delegation on the Rwandan electoral system. The Somalis saluted the NEC’s efforts and achievement so far and confided that it may be a blueprint for building democracy in their country.

Mr. Munyaneza also informed the delegation about the preparations for the August 9, 2009 Presidential elections, which are expected to be another showcase for cementing electoral democracy in Rwanda.
